Alternatives for the halftime show - No one watches the halftime show of the Super Bowl anymore. Adam has a couple ideas to make it a bit better.

Cookies - Adam disses a Girl Scout. Apparently there's a rule the Brothers Z, and Adam in this case, were not aware of.

Long Hallway Etiquette

There is this hallway I walk down every day to go to the locker room at the gym. This hallway is massive, easily 100 yards and most of the time is not occupied with other people, except of course when I decide to walk down it. Inevitability when I go down it, there is someone walking towards me, at the other end. Now my question is, when do you acknowledge that the other person is there? I mean it isn’t like you yell, “Hey what’s up?” from 100 yards away, but you have this awkwardness of walking towards each other. It’s where you both see each other, but are too far away to say anything. So you keep walking and walking, until you finally get close enough to acknowledge the other person. What if you don’t know the other person? I mean you have to at least say “hi.” I mean you have shared this 7 to 9 second walk together (which feels more like 10 minutes) from the opposite ends of this hallway; you have to say something right? Maybe a head bob at the very least to acknowledge the other persons’ existence, or a “what’s up.”

What happens if you know the person? Do you try to start a conversation that neither of you can hear because it is echoing off the walls, that you end up stopping and waiting until you are a few feet apart. Well then that brings up even more awkward silence between friends as you look at each other for 50 feet.

Where do you look? That is my other question? I mean if it was a movie and you hated the other person this hallway would be great for one of those movie-type stare down sequences. But otherwise you have to look everywhere BUT at the person coming at you, you have to, you have no choice. I usually choose about 10 feet in front of me with an occasional quick dart up to see when I need to give the head bob “what’s up.”

Now you can’t give the head bob “what’s up” to everyone. I work on a campus, so that is my student response. If it is a friend I will ask, “How’s is going?” and if it is a neither a student or friend I use the, “good morning.” as my main go-to greeting.

The sad thing is is that this enters my head every time I walk down that hallway. EVERYTIME. I think I have issues.

Ep 67: Flip It and Reverse It

Late episode because one of the brothers had a birthday... could it be the one that edits the show? Maybe. This week the brother talk about:

- Adam's walk - Instead of walking 20 feet to ask a neighbor for a snow shovel, Adam decided to walk to the nearest hardware store.

- ESPN's "Playmakers" - More real than you think. Especially considering Mike Vick's recent water bottle incident... there are some questions that NEED to be asked.

This week Ryan has some things to say about -
- The Colts and Patriots game. He didn't want the Colts to win as much as he wanted the Patriots to lose... sounds like Belichick is becoming his nemesis too.

- The Bears maul the Saints. The Saints tried to hang in, but the Bears simply did not make any mistakes.

- The Steelers Hire. Who is Mike Tomlin? He knows where he came from, where he has coached - but not much about the type of guy he is... Ryan is reserving judgement for now.

- Marquette. Hey, there's college basketball going on...This Marquette team is pretty good - you should watch them if you get a chance.

Oh, Michael Vick - why could you not be busted a day sooner? The Brothers Z could have chimed in... as it were they had enought to talk about. This week:

- The end of the Colts vs. Pats game..... if it were a movie. Adam and Ryan have their thoughts so Trent is prepared for it to end nothing like either.

- Becks - Adam chimes in on the David Beckham situation as we was unable to last week. 2 weeks with soccer? Unprecedented since World Cup.

- Ladainian - Why are people still talking about this? Why are we? Who Cares?

- Off Rhythm - Adam's DJ-ing at basketball games is being all screwed up by those stupid bastards in the...pep band?

Random tz thoughts

I think Miami may hire Mike Shula, and daddy Don will be there to help out most of the time. This could be a good move for them... Shula success in Miami would be a nice little "stick it" to Alabama, who may have let him go prematurely.

Russ Grimm to coach the Steelers? I actually have thought all along that if they were going to stay 'in house' that he would be a better option than Wisenhunt (I don't think I have a rational reasoning for this).

American Idol started last night. I do not watch this show. Oddly enough, I have no problem flipping on the idiocy of VH1's White Rapper show, but won't watch American Idol - I think it has to do with the level of seriousness it takes itself.

It looks like PS3s are readily available and in stock all over the place now. When there's more games available for it, it's on my list... the list includes a flat-panel TV and also DirectTV... the worst thing about being an 'adult' is that they are low on the list behind "this week's groceries" and "bills" and "gasoline."

I will root for either the Colts or the Saints if either gets into the Super Bowl. If both get in, I will consult the Magic 8 Ball and the coin (Actually in the battle of inanimate objects making predictions, I would take the coin over the Magic 8 Ball, in an upset).

I hope Jimmy Clausen is a flop.

And I think I think...
I think it's funny how Adam will read Peter King, just to get angry. He doesn't like Peter King. He doesn't like his writing, but on some Mondays he will IM me some random sentence from Peter King and then continue to tell me how much he hates him. Of course, when Adam gets mad, it's pretty funny.

Adam loved the Jets/Patriots game not only for the drama on the field, but off the field too. So, Adam, what do you really think about Bill Belichick?

It has been only 1 full day since the match up of the Ravens/Colts was set. And I am already sick of the New Baltimore vs. Old Baltimore angle. People are talking about revenge... revenge!? People are saying that the Ravens HAVE to win this one. I swear I saw a reporter on the news this morning talking about how the Ravens need to win this game, and she was ALMOST IN TEARS.

I was rooting for her to cry though. I felt like the bully in 'A Christmas Story' saying "what are you gonna do? Cry? Go on? Waaaaa." Let's forget the part where that bully get's the crap kicked out of him by Ralphie. I guess that would be the basis of my prediction on this game. Baltimore wins because of 'A Christmas Story.' I digress.

People are talking about taking Mayflower moving vans to the game and tailgating in them (which, actually, I like that idea - kind of funny) they have shirts that sold out in the city in a day saying "Beat Indy" with Johnny Unitas on them, and 'Unitas' on the back with #19. Do these people know that these shirts are pretty much good for 1 week (I know they can wear them whenever, but the relevance is lost).

And do these fans forget how they got their "new" Baltimore team? That's right, they took them from Cleveland. When they did it, they called it karma, the called it justice - I call it hypocrisy to spew the venom about the Colts, and neglect the origin of their own team that they took from Cleveland. I mean how twisted is that? It's like cheating on your wife, and then have the audacity to get mad at her when you catch her in bed with the mailman (licking her stamps[?])

Friday is city-wide "Purple Day." 1) I don't own one piece of purple clothing 2) I am not a Ravens fan (actually, since moving over here 3 years ago, I have grown from indifference to not liking the fan base - the team, I think is good). So naturally, I have had to a) Design a flyer to put up all around work in promotion of Purple Day and b) be chastized because I don't want to participate in it. Look, I don't care if you love your team. That's cool. But please, don't rub your team in my face. Just because I live here doesn't mean I am a fan.

And, by the way. The word 'purple' is one of those words that is annoying and stupid the more you say it. Am I right? Try it. Purple. Purrrrple. Purple. Puuuuuuuuuuuurple. Purpley Purpley Poo.

The worst part of all of this is that I have 4 more days of this (not counting today). I'm not sure I will be able to make it without drinking heavily... so that's the silver lining.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! Extra long podcast for this first 2007 episode. In 2007 the Brothers Z's resolution is to be more informative and more professional about our podcast... we make it about 30 seconds... this week the Brothers Z discuss:

- Boise St. vs Oklahoma - Is this really the argument for a playoff or is it also a strong argument for the current BCS system? It gets heated in here.

- The BCS got it right - Suuure... as a "happy little accident" (ode to Bob Ross)

My Last Big East Rant...this year

The Big East is 4-0 in bowl game and has locked up the best record of any conference this Bowl Season. There is a perception out there that the Big East is the "Big Least" and it simply is not reality. The Big East have won back-to-back BCS bowl games, where the ACC has won one since the BCS's inception (and that was against the now-ACC team Virginia Tech). And the Big East has made it's mark with inarguably the shallowest talent pool of all the other regional conferences and makes their Bowl Success more impressive.

One of the things I look at when people talk about the Big East, other than their bowl record, that legitimizes them a bit more is a) the attraction to Big East coaches: Petrino, Shiano, Levitt and Rodriguez (Cincinnati's coach was hired away) and b) that the majority of thos coaches decided to stay rather than persue - what the perception was - 'better jobs.' I think that says something about the Big East as a conference and in particular about each school's dedication to continue to make the conference stronger. As far as the talent pool, I think the attraction to the coaches is warranted because of what they have been able to accomplish with players who are not "blue chippers" coming in. WVU's QB was a player everyone else wanted to make a WR. Their RB was a guy whose MD scholarship was taken away - their FB transferred from Wisconsin-River Falls...

As for the bowl victories - Last year's WVU win over UGA began the thought process of not removing them from the BCS, and this year's bowl performance has solidified it. The top 2 ACC teams fell to the top 2 Big East teams. Rutgers got shafted a little in their bowl selection and whipped up on Kansas State, USF beat ECU, and Cincinatti has a good shot against Western Michigan.

I have begun to leave the "Big Least" comments alone, as some people's perception is their reality and will continue to be. But to think that they are not for real would be both short-sighted and naive. People will also like to point at the lack of "tradition" and lack of Championships for the conference. However, like I mentioned - the championships did go to the ACC. And the Big East has to build a new tradition. They can't wave a magic wand and get one - they have to build one game by game, year by year - pointing to those things is a weak argument as the conference, essentially, has had to start over. It would be much like someone saying that a 6 year old is not as successful as a 40 year old.

That said, there is no denying that the Big East does have a solid and successful foundation in which to grow, and over time, the perception will go away - but that probably will not be done because of 2 years, because people still hold onto familiar perceptions long after they cease being reality.

BOISE ST. WILL CHANGE THE WOOOORRRRLLLLD!

Ok. Not really. I have heard this a couple of times this morning; that Boise St. winning would help kick start the revamping of the college football post season. It's just not true though.

It was a great game. No doubt. I will talk about it all day today "did you see?" This game epitomizes what I love about college football.

But let's not over estimate its importance. It proved that Boise State could play with the likes of a BCS team this year. Year-in and year-out, it is not always the case. I would wager that you would have 1 or 2 teams from a mid-major a year that could be this competetive against anyone in the country, but the vast majority of mid-major teams simply cannot.

Then we talk about a playoff - now I don't know about you, but BSU doesn't seem like a team that could string together 3-4 wins against BCS schools. They were up emotionally for this game, played it damn near perfect, and at the end - were getting a little tired (even Peterson mad a comment about how easily Oklahoma scored in OT as a basis of the 2 point decision). I am just not sure they could put together a string of performances like that. Maybe I am completely wrong.

As it stands, though, BSU has a huge win for their program - and the benefit of having the stigma that they were robbed out of an NC game. Because who knows what would have happened if they played OSU. Sometimes that unknown plays into the favor of the would-be underdog.
